Thanks for your interest in the Campus Compact EnviroCorps program. Campus Compact EnviroCorps (CCEC) is the first nationwide AmeriCorps program dedicated to building capacity and strengthening campus-based, community-led environmental stewardship efforts. EnviroCorps works with colleges, universities, and their community partners to weatherize homes, organize nature conservation projects, and lead environmental education events in local communities. Combined, these activities help increase home energy efficiency, cost savings, and comfort; enhance access to clean air, land, and water; and increase knowledge and motivation to make a positive difference for the planet.

Directions: Please complete this application to apply to be a CCEC host site for the 2025-2026 service term. The priority deadline for applicants is June 13, 2025.

With a vision of higher education institutions as social change agents, we seek proposals from Campus Compact member institutions and their partners looking to utilize AmeriCorps resources to enhance environmental stewardship efforts on their campus and in their larger community.

Before completing this CCEC Host Site Application, please carefully review the

Request For ProposalsPlease refer back to the RFP while completing this application.

When you encounter a radio button or checkbox question in this application, your choices may impact future questions. Although you will have the ability to navigate between pages as you complete the application, changing your selections on previous pages may cause you to lose some of your work. This prompts us to offer the following guidance:

  1. Review this Application Guide: You will be unable to progress through the application without filling out the required questions. Given that pieces of this application may need input from various stakeholders, the guide will allow you to collaborate and prepare your application responses.
  2. Keep a separate copy of your text answers: Although FormAssembly autosaves your work as you navigate between pages, changing checkbox or radio button selections may cause you to lose your work. We recommend copying and pasting narrative answers into a separate word document to prevent lost work.
  3. Select "Save my progress and resume later" to revisit your application: You will be asked to provide an email address and create a password. This login information can be shared with others on your team or at a co-hosting site so they can collaborate on completing the application.

If you have questions or face technical difficulties, please reach out to Sara Boscacci at sboscacci@compact.org

Environmental Impact Plan Development

Informed by both the campus and community goals and the CCEC goals, all host sites will develop an Environmental Impact Plan that lays out what they would like to accomplish for the year with the support of the CCEC program. We believe that campuses and communities know their own needs best, and so we approach project design with a level of open-endedness in order to meet those needs. The host site’s Environmental Impact Plan should ensure that their campus and community goals are met in tandem with CCEC’s goals and requirements.

All CCEC projects must serve both the campus and the community and should focus on leveraging that relationship in a mutually beneficial way. Generally, the sum of project activities and outcomes should focus at least 50% on community impacts.

The Environmental Impact Plan should clarify the overall work that members will be supporting as well as the activities that members will engage in. Those activities should be inclusive of, but not limited to, the activities outlined in each CCEC Requirement section, as depicted in the program model overview visual in section 3A of the RFP.

Throughout pages 4-8 of this application, you will draft your Environmental Impact Plan.

CCEC awards AmeriCorps members to host sites at varying levels of readiness and hopes to provide host sites with the capacity to grow their projects over program years and ensure the sustainability of their projects.

Please review section 3 of the RFP carefully before completing this section.

CCEC Goals

Utilizing teams of AmeriCorps members placed at campus host sites throughout the United States, CCEC’s program goals are to:

  • Leverage colleges and universities’ ability to make an environmental impact through strengthening their connections to the community and building capacity for their campuses and their community partners
  • Increase individual knowledge and behavioral change to impact costs and comfort related to energy usage and to support access to clean air, land, and water
  • Increase energy efficiency and cost savings for local communities
  • Improve nature conservation, biodiversity health, and access to clean air, land, and water
  • Increase training opportunities and professional development resources that generate workforce pathways and lasting investment in their communities for EnviroCorps members
These program goals will inform the host site’s Environmental Impact Plan, in tandem with the campus and community’s environmental goals.

Campus & Community Environmental Goals

The CCEC program model is designed to incorporate environmental goals, programs, and activities that are already in place, in motion, or desired at a campus host site or within their surrounding community. This body of work should inform how the host site plans to utilize CCEC AmeriCorps members and should inform your Environmental Impact Plan.

This section will allow you to provide a detailed description of the overall goals of your campus and community environmental programming.

Please describe your campus and community environmental goals in the text box below. Consider how they align with CCEC’s program goals and requirements. Include the following information, at a minimum. However, please craft your narrative response in a comprehensive manner rather than responding to these questions individually:

  • What are the environmental challenges or needs faced by the campus and/or the community?
  • What goals, programs, and activities are already in place at the campus and within the community?
  • What do you hope to achieve on campus and in the community through participation in CCEC?

Requirement 1: Capacity Building

All CCEC host sites are required to include AmeriCorps capacity building activities as part of their Environmental Impact Plan. Please review the CCEC AmeriCorps definitions of capacity building and the associated interventions (Volunteer Management, Systems Development, Resource Development, and Training) in section 3D of the RFP.

After making your selections above, the rest of this page will provide an opportunity for you to provide more detail about the kind of work the CCEC members may do under each capacity building activity you selected. These activities should be integrated into your Environmental Impact Plan in support of CCEC Goals and/or your Campus & Community Environmental Goals.
Volunteer Management
Outline the volunteer management activities CCEC members will undertake.

Systems Development
Outline the systems development activities CCEC members will undertake.

Resource Development
Outline the resource development activities (fundraising, partnership development, in-kind resources) CCEC members will undertake.

Training
Outline the training activities CCEC members will undertake.

Requirement 2: Impact Area Activities

Host sites must choose at least one of the following program impact areas, with members providing direct services in these areas. Please note that we will prioritize applicants who are able to complete the Energy Efficiency impact area as it ties directly to our federal requirements. Sites are also able to select both impact areas.

Impact Area 2a: Energy Efficiency

Low-Tech Interventions:

Please answer the following questions regarding your plans for implementing low-tech interventions.

You will answer questions related to environmental education events on the following page.

Below you will be asked whether you intend to provide low-tech interventions to households and/or public structures. These terms are defined by AmeriCorps as follows:
  • Housing unit: single-family home (including a mobile home if permanently placed); an apartment; or a room in a group home for people with disabilities
  • Public structure: shelter, such as a homeless shelter or emergency shelter operated by a nonprofit or government organization; or a government-owned building

Impact Area 2b: Nature Conservation

Nature Conservation Projects:

Please answer the following questions regarding your plans for nature conservation. You may answer in bullet form so long as the bullets include the necessary details.

If you have more than one project, please note the following:
  • If you will implement similar projects but in different locations, you may discuss them in a combined manner by filling out one set of questions below. However, be sure to specify the multiple locations.
  • If you will implement projects that are dissimilar (different goals, interventions, etc.), please add them separately. You may indicate at the bottom of this page that you have another project to add. This form provides space to talk about up to three distinct projects.

You will answer questions related to environmental education events on the following page.

Impact Areas 2a/2b: Environmental Education Events

Requirement 3: Member Development and Support

CCEC members will receive training and support in order to increase training opportunities and professional development resources that generate workforce pathways for CCEC members and to accomplish program goals and objectives.

That being said, member development is a collaborative effort between CCEC and the host site.

Additional Environmental Activities

Pages 5-8 asked you to provide details about meeting the CCEC Requirements. On this page, we are interested in hearing about additional environmental activities members will engage in as part of your overall Environmental Impact Plan.

These activities can be both direct and indirect, to support the host site and relevant partners’ environmental impacts. These activities must adhere to AmeriCorps rules, but can be designed by the host site.

Community Input

In addition to benefiting the local community, CCEC emphasizes the importance of involving the community in both project design and implementation. In designing projects, campus host sites should consider how the community has been engaged, involved, and considered in the planning process.

Designing Your CCEC Team

Selecting a Member Placement Package
The host site’s Environmental Impact Plan will be carried out by a team of AmeriCorps members. On this page, you will determine the number and types of AmeriCorps members that you want to host and incorporate into your Environmental Impact Plan. CCEC offers six member placement packages to choose from, as shown in the table below.

All institutions must select one of these packages. If an institution wants to host additional members, they may be able to so long as CCEC has slots available.

Host site supervisors should consider their capacity to support members when deciding on their requested team size. See section 3B of the RFP for more information.

Individual Member Responsibilities
Each member will need to have a unique position description developed for them that will speak to each element of the Environmental Impact Plan. You will develop this in Part II of the application process (see section 4B of the RFP). You do not need to know exactly what this will look like right now; however, we would like to hear your current thoughts.

For example, if you selected Package 3 above and you anticipate the FT and HT members to have unique roles, but the three MT members to have the same role, please explain this.
Leveraging Institutional Opportunities for Members
See Section 3G of the RFP for more information about leveraging institutional opportunities to align with CCEC AmeriCorps.
